Cross - disciplinary activities

Linguistics

Linguistics is included in PANEL ERC SH4 “The Human Mind and its complexity: cognition, psychology, linguistics, philosophy and education” as one of the theoretical approaches to contribute, alongside psychology, pedagogy and cognitive sciences, to the study of human mind and its complexity. In particular, the theoretical and methodological approaches included in the description of the curriculum are derived from subpanels SH4_6 “Typological, historical and comparative linguistics”, SH4_7 “Acquisition and knowledge of language: psycholinguistics, neurolinguistics”, SH4_8 “Use of language: pragmatics, sociolinguistics, discourse analysis” and SH4_9 “Second language teaching and learning, language pathologies, lexicography, terminology”, i.e. different dimensions and levels of theoretical, typological-descriptive analysis and variational linguistics (SH4_6), use of language with reference to pragmatics, sociolinguistics and discourse analysis (SH4_8), acquisition and knowledge of language, language learning and teaching (SH4_7 e SH4_9). The curriculum ‘Languages, linguistics & English for Special Purposes’ represents a specific area of research. It has a high added value within the PhD programme content in providing students with the opportunity to acquire advanced skills and competencies for analysis of text types for research and communication as well as writing in English in different disciplinary fields and with special focus on the use of APA style.
