Presentation of the Doctorate

The PhD is aimed at graduates who intend, after graduation, to receive research training in the study and application of scientific methodologies.
The PhD in Mind Gender and Language is developed as an interdisciplinary and cross-sectoral educational project and includes three research areas. The first one deepens the interdisciplinary study of the human mind, psychological processes, affective, cognitive and relational development, well-being, training and education, integrating different research approaches and methodologies.

The second one offers an interdisciplinary study of the dimensions of gender in the various social interrelationships to promote gender cultures and equal opportunities in different areas, and intervention research pathways aimed at innovation, active citizenship, empowerment, participation. The gender dimension is regarded as a qualifying element in the study of the mind and languages, creating connections between different sectors.

The third one focuses on an aspect of the cognitive system, language, which is explored in its semantic, pragmatic, psycholinguistic, sociolinguistic, and cultural aspects, with particular regard to language learning, discourse analysis and specialized languages and examined in its different dimensions and levels of analysis.

For the issues addressed, objectives and structure, this Doctorate represents an interdisciplinary and cross-sectoral educational training project unique in the national scenario, mirroring in its entirety the ERC SH4 sector "The Human Mind and its complexity: cognition, psychology, linguistics, philosophy and education ", combined with other disciplinary areas such as PE6_7" Artificial intelligence, intelligent systems, multi agent systems ", SH2_1" Social structure, inequalities, social mobility, interethnic relations ", SH2_3" Kinship, cultural dimensions of classification and cognition, identity, gender ", SH2_6" Violence, conflict and conflict resolution ", SH6_9" gender history ".
The doctoral programme lasts three years, by the end of which the doctoral student presents a dissertation illustrating the research carried out in the field of study close to his/her interests among those covered by the doctorate.
During the doctorate, the doctoral student is required to spend at least a three-month study period in a University abroad.
This PhD qualification can primarily be used in those professional domains (public or private) in which high research skills are required (universities, research centres, market research agencies, etc.) but, more recently, also in business contexts, thanks to the activation of "industrial doctorates" that enable the doctoral student to develop, during the doctoral course itself, work experience within companies.
The research and learning pathways implemented (in synergy with Italian, European and non-European communities and scientific societies) relate to scientific themes and trends emerging nationally and internationally, as well as political and social emergencies, which require research-intervention responses.
In these terms, the Doctorate is posed both as a pole of excellence in research in various disciplinary fields (expressing innovative research lines and social impact) and as a driving force for local and territorial development.
